Laurier House National Historical Site

Visitor Centre Attendant  (May 2023 – Present)

Responsible for the management, organization, planning, training, and daily operations at the Laurier House Visitor Centre and gift shop.

Notable Accomplishments:

·       Conducted an evaluation of available educational programming to be used in the upcoming Visitor Experience Renewal and compiled findings into a report including a proposal for new programming, and updates to new curricular standards in both Ontario and Quebec.

·       Created and updated visitor centre training procedures, communications systems, tracking systems, and filing to improve record-keeping and efficiency of procedures at the Visitor Centre leading to improved communication and planning.

SABL Creations

Assistant (February 2012 – Present)    

Developed and presented cartooning workshops to children, teens, and adults. Created and managed organization of and procedures for office and merchandise.

Notable Accomplishments:

·       In collaboration with the artist, presented and evaluated cartooning workshops, improving effectiveness of delivery.

·       Created a filing system for the business and managed the organization of office, materials, business projects, and tracking of stock for sale, increasing time and resources available for the creation of new works.

 

 

Library and Archives Canada (LAC)      

Genealogy Consultant, Term, EC-02 (August 2019 – December 2020) 

Instructed and connected clients to resources and technical knowledge to begin and continue their genealogical research.

Notable Accomplishments:

·       In response to client needs, researched and drafted a report on the effect of direct-to-consumer genetic testing (i.e. Ancestry, 23andme) on genealogical research, becoming the on-site expert on this topic, training other team members on it, and assisting several clients who were adoptees or otherwise had little access to family information.

·       Managed six genealogical databases, and contributed to the development and maintenance of three others managed by other team members, supporting LAC’s commitment to the accessibility and accuracy of information.

 

Arthur B. McDonald Canadian Astroparticle Physics Research Institute   

Museum Studies Intern (January 2018 – April 2018)           

Created and developed a visitor centre containing educational programming space with content for ages 8+, two exhibits, and multimedia elements in five months start to finish in a multifunctional space with multiple stakeholders.

Notable Accomplishments:

·       Developed comprehensive plans for future educational programming for all ages with options using physical objects, augmented reality, and virtual reality to enhance visitor learning and retention. Created the project plan, front-end evaluation for the educational programming and the exhibits, and materials for later stages of evaluation.

·       Developed a partnership between the MacDonald Institute and Beyond Classrooms Kingston, generating eight class visit requests within the first month after opening.

 

Ottawa Jewish Archives

Student, Applied Museum Studies (September 2017 – December 2017)

Created a full proposal for an exhibit on the history of Jewish shopkeepers in the Byward Market including budgets, project planning, and educational programming in a team of four.

Notable Accomplishments:

·       Created educational programming for the exhibit and assembled the full project’s budget with links to purchase or procure every item. This enabled the curator to immediately start arranging for the exhibit to be built and to offer programming for all ages even before it opened.

·       Created and completed front-end evaluation for the educational programming and exhibit, also created materials for future stages of evaluation.

 

Canadian Museum of History

Student Data Collector, Visitor Research & Evaluation (June 2017 – August 2017)

Conducted and entered timing and tracking as well as observational studies of visitors in the Canada History Hall as part of the evaluation team.

Notable accomplishments:

·       Made recommendations to improve visitor wayfinding within and when exiting the exhibit, once new signage was posted visitor confusion was significantly reduced and visitors’ overall experience of the hall improved.

·       Organized fieldwork schedule with colleagues around museum events and VIP visits to the Canada History Hall.
